The numbers in TUS will rise to over 2,000.
More apprentices are set to be trained in the midlands in the near future.
TUS will now have the capacity to train 2,200 apprentices.
The midlands university has announced that it will expand it apprenticeship offerings in its Athlone Campus and on the new Coonagh Campus in Limerick.
TUS President Professor Vincent Cunnane says: "This expansion will enable us to play a more significant role in addressing the skills shortage and ensuring that we have the talent required to drive economic growth in the Midlands and Midwest regions"
