A new Medical Workforce Intelligence Report says the most commonly reported barriers identified by doctors were pressure on workloads, time spent on administration and bureaucracy, and overcrowding.
22.1% of doctors self-reported working more than 48 hours a week on average last year, down slightly from 23.1% in 2024.
Currently, 5.5% of the country's 5,000 practicing GPs are based in the Midlands, 118 in Westmeath, 80 in Laois, and 74 in Offaly.
