It happened at around 6.25am this morning on the N65 at Kilcooley.
No other vehicle was involved in the incident
The motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway, where he later passed away.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
