The biggest drop comes in Westmeath where they're down by 93%.
There's been a sharp decline in the number of new home commencements across the Midlands when compared to last year.
New data from the Housing Department shows 38 new homes began across Laois, Offaly and Westmeath in May.
That means commencements in Westmeath this year are down 93 per cent when compared to 2024.
They're down 90% in Laois, and 86% in Offaly.
