New Local Link Car Scheme Announced For Offaly

The scheme aims to address rural exclusion.

A new Local Link community car scheme has been announced for Offaly.

It's one of six projects - also being launched in Longford, Cork, Kerry and Mayo - that will receive a grant of up to 6 thousand euro.

The scheme aims to address rural exclusion by providing a service that is accessible to everyone.

Volunteer drivers use their own car and provide door to door transport for passengers who have difficulties accessing other forms of transport.

Manager of Local Link Laois/Offaly, Frances Byrne, says they're exploring alternatives to the bus service:
