A new initiative to support a shift to a low carbon economy in the midlands has been launched today.
The €4.1m ReSHAPE project has been officially launched at the TUS Athlone Campus.
The aim of the initiative is to provide almost 4,000 learners with funded education, training and skills development in the new green economy, over a two-year period.
Offers in Phase 1 include courses in carbon footprint analysis, green procurement and AI and cyber-security.
TUS President Vincent Cunnane says it's a pivotal moment for the midlands:
The project is being funded by the EU Just Transition Fund as a collaboration between TUS, Munster Technological Univeristy ans University of Limerick.
Launching the initiative was Minister of State for Land Use and Biodiversity, midlands Senator, Pippa Hackett.
The Green Party rep says "It is essential that those most affected by the transition to a carbon-neutral future receive tailored assistance to address the social and economic impacts."
