€150m is to be invested into the new private facility.
A new Offaly private hospital is expected to create up to 300 permanent jobs.
John Flanagan Developments received planning permission for the extension of the already-approved facility on the Wellwood Healthcare Campus in Tullamore.
Joint Managing Director, John Flanagan, says they're planning to invest €150m in the new private hospital, and they expect to create 200 jobs in the construction phase.
The facility will have 56 in-patient beds, and an additional 70 day beds, and will be able to carry out as many as 1,300 procedures every day.
Wellwood Hospital will include five operating theatres, endoscopy suites and a full range of diagnostic imaging supports including MRI, CT and Ultrasound.
The developer says while construction on the originally-approved project was due to commence last summer, it was clear the additional beds were needed to help address the deficit in such services in the midlands.
