It's hoped the new Shannon Tourism Masterplan will reposition the region as a key destination.
Barbara Smith from Silverline Cruisers in Banagher is welcoming the €76.5 million investment in the region over the next ten years by Fáilte Ireland and Waterways Ireland.
It's the first time there's been a plan for the entire Shannon area, and Babara expects it'll drive tourists into the towns and villages along the river:
TOURISM: It's hoping to attract a further 400,000 tourists over ten years.
