Statkraft Ireland are planning a 7 turbine wind farm across townlands in Offaly.
There's plans for a new wind farm project in Offaly.
The project will consist of a 7-turbine wind farm across the townlands of Ballyfore Big, Ballyleakin, Ballinla and into Leitrim.
In the coming weeks, planning will be submitted for the wind farm, with the capacity to deliver over 50 MW of renewable energy to the Irish electricity grid.
It's being brought forward by Statkraft Ireland which is revising its proposal following community engagement.
The number of turbines has been reduced from 10 to 7, with a setback from the Grand Canal Way increased by 437m.
The project will also support a zero shadow flicker policy.
A €3.7 million Community Benefit Fund is planned, supporting local amenities, biodiversity, and energy efficiency.
Annual rates of over €825,000 will go to Offaly County Council for public services.
A full Biodiversity Management Plan will be submitted to enhance local habitats.
Further consultations are ongoing with the local communities.
