The records reveal numbers at the former Maryborough District Lunatic Asylum in Portlaoise.
A newly released 1926 census is revealing the identities of more than 500 people recorded as 'inmates' at a Laois Lunatic Asylum.
The records show patients from Laois and Offaly, detailing their ages, religions, and birthplaces, but not their medical conditions at the Maryborough District Lunatic Asylum in Portlaoise.
Over 40 staff were also listed, including superintendent Pierce Grace, who lived on-site with his family.
The facility later became St Fintan's Hospital.
