A review last year found more than a quarter of Gardaí had a firearms authorisation card.

The number of Gardaí carrying guns is being reduced as many officers who had access to them worked in non-frontline areas.

A review last year found more than a quarter of Gardaí had a firearms authorisation card.

However, almost 1,000 have now been withdrawn has part of a new process, according to the Irish Times.
