Longford had the highest rate in the country.

The number of children in classes of 35 pupils or more has increased.

Figures show 'super-sized' classes rose by 450 in the last academic year, to over 2,200 nationwide, according to the Irish Independent.

Longford has the highest rate in the country at 21 school children per 1,000 being educated in these settings.

That's followed by Westmeath at 17 per 1,000, and then Roscommon at 15 1,000.

This is despite the number of children enrolled in mainstream classes falling by over 8,500
