The figures have been deemed as 'predictable'.

The number of people who left the Defence Forces last year was more than double the number who joined.

891 people left in 2022, while only 435 were inducted.

Recruitment and retention of personnel has been an ongoing issue for the Irish Defence Forces.

PDFORRA says the figures are "predictable" and has been on the cards for a number of years.

Its General Secretary, Mucklagh's Ger Guinan, says it's been very frustrating for representatives trying to keep members in the service:
