The number of people homeless in the midlands is on the rise.

73 adults were in emergency accommodation across the region last month, according to the latest Deparment of Housing figures.

Westmeath was the worst affected with 30, followed by Offaly with 24, and Laois with 19.

Seven families were without a home, including 11 children.

The national picture has also worsened, with, over 8,200 adults and 2,100 children recorded as homeless last month.
