Nursing Homes Body Seeks Clear Action

Nursing home representative body The Alliance wants to see three clear outcomes following an independent review into HIQA's processes.

A review published yesterday, commissioned by Minister for Older People Kieran O'Donnell found the current methods of the health watchdog is  'fundamentally effective.'

However, it is recommending criteria used to action resident-focused inspections need to be reassessed.

The review was ordered after a TV expose showing multiple instances of care failings and neglect at Emeis Ireland nursing homes, including The Residence in Portlaoise.
