ODVSS Back NWC Calls To Remove Domestic Abuse Perpetrators From Homes

CEO OF Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service Anne Clarke feels property rights are often given priority in abuse cases.

The National Women’s Council is calling for stronger legal protections to allow women and children experiencing domestic abuse to remain in the family home, with perpetrators removed instead. 

In a new submission to the Child and Family Homelessness Action Plan, the group believe many women face a choice between homelessness and returning to their abuser. 

CEO of Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service Anne Clarke says there's poor coordination between justice, housing and social protection systems, leaving survivors without long-term options. 

She says the rights of property supersede the rights of safety for women:
