An Offaly athlete is getting set to captain an Irish international team at a World Cup.
Birr's Susan Verney will be leading a panel of 23 into the Roller Derby World Cup in Orléans, France at the end of this month.
Roller Derby is a full contact, 60-minute sport played on quad skates by two teams of five players, with points scored when the jammer laps opposing skaters, while blockers form defensive walls to support their own jammer and obstruct the opposition.
The team with the most points after two 30 minute halves wins.
Susan's Ireland squad will face Mexico in their opening game next Thursday.
