The expansion Banagher Chilling would have brought 110 new permanent jobs.
It looks like Offaly is set to miss out on hundreds of new jobs.
A Chinese consortium, which was set to expand the Banagher Chilling abattoir has abondoned plans, which was expected to create 110 permanent jobs and generate an additional 250 jobs during the construction phase.
The company initially submitted plans for a €25 million single-story extension to the existing abattoir at the Banagher site in July 2019.
In 2022, An Bord Pleanála approved planning permission for the €40 million plant.
