Plans are in place for a 710MW gas power station and potentially Ireland’s largest data centre on former bogland at Derrygreenagh, with Amazon involved in the project.
Last year, data centres used nearly a quarter of Ireland’s electricity, compared with just 5% a decade earlier, almost matching the electricity consumption of every home in the country.
