Edenderry Councillor Fergus McDonnell says he believes it's going on the "wrong site."
A Midlands councillor has objected to a proposal for a new hospice facility in Tullamore.
At the most recent Offaly County Council meeting, councillors voted to support a motion for a hospice care facility to be built in Offaly.
However, Councillor Fergus McDonnell objected to the proposal, which would see a 20 bed hospice care facility built on Offaly County Council land in Tullamore.
The Independent Ireland representative says he cannot support the latest project, as he believes it is going ahead on the "wrong site".
He says there is an "ideal site at Tullamore Hospital" which will not be used for the project.
The councillor originally agreed to the variation of the development plan.
However, he says he did not have all the information regarding the project at the time and now disagrees with the proposed location for the facility:
Despite his objection, the motion received support from the majority of councillors, allowing the project to progress to the next stage.
The facility is intended to provide hospice care for people across the Midlands, improving access to services for patients and their families.
The project will be carried out in partnership with the HSE and Offaly, Laois and Westmeath County Councils.
The development is now set to move forward, despite concerns being raised over the location of the proposed facility.
