An Offaly councillor says he's sick of the constant battle between the government and rural Ireland.

Independent John Leahy feels rural counties like Offaly continually suffer from Fine Gael policies and initiatives.

He cites the end of peat-harvesting in the midlands and the lack of public transport links as examples of how rural Ireland is always an afterthought. 

Councillor Leahy is also criticising the government's approach to schools, farming and drink-driving laws.
