The councillor previously topped the poll in Edenderry.
Offaly County Councillor Eddie Fitzpatrick has announced his intentions to run for Fianna Fail in the forthcoming general election.
The Edenderry rep says he's hoping to be chosen at his party's selection convention for Offaly's new three seat constituency.
Mr Fitzpatrick topped the poll in Edenderry with just under 2 thousand first preference votes.
He did however run in the 2016 general election, narrowly failing to secure a second seat for his party along with Barry Cowen
He says he wants to create more opportunity in Offaly:
