Offaly Gardaí Investigating After Scam Leaves Person €13,000 Out Of Pocket

They're renewing their warning about suspicious text messages.

Gardaí in Birr are investigating a "smishing scam" which left a person over 13,000 euro out of pocket.

The victim had followed a link in a text message which claimed that their bank account had been deactivated for security reasons.

Gardai are reminding people that banks will never email or text you asking for personal, login or card information and to report such a text message immediately.

Crime Prevention Officer for Laois/Offaly Graham Kavanagh says scammers try to panic the individual who recieves the text:
