Offaly Landowner Prosecuted For Destruction Of Vegetation

The offence was in breach of the Wildlife Act.

An Offaly landowner has been prosecuted for the destruction of vegetation under the Wildlife Act.

Denis Hogan of Kyleshinaun, Cloughjordan, Tipperary procured Thomas Standish of Lisnere House, Roscrea, Offaly and Brendan Higgins of Garraun Summerhill,  Roscrea, Offaly to carry out the works using a mechanically propelled vehicle. 

Works took place at Cangort Demesne in Shinrone in July 2023, with the case being taken by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Judge Nicola Jane Andrews convicted and fined all three men in separate sittings at Tullamore District Court.

Mr Hogan was fined €10,500, Mr Standish €7,000 and Mr Higgins fined €250. 

Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity Christopher O’Sullivan TD says 'incidents of wildlife crime are taken seriously by the authorities.'
