Offaly MEP Eyes Growth For Irish Whiskey During EU-India Trade Talks

Irish whiskey exports to India have risen over the past five years despite tariffs.

An Offaly MEP believes there is a great opportunity for Ireland to grow its spirits sector in India. 

Fianna Fáil's Barry Cowen is meeting with members of the Indian Government, to discuss the potential of an EU-India trade deal.

Over the past five years, Irish whiskey exports to India have increased, despite facing tariffs of around 150% under import rules. 

A recent trade pact between the UK and India lowered tariffs on whiskey and gin from 150 to 75%, with a further reduction to 40% over 10 years.
