It comes from new research from The Drinks Industry Group of Ireland.
A quarter of Irish pubs have closed their doors over the past 20 years.
A new report shows more than 2,200 pubs have disappeared since 2005, while Offaly has the second highest rate of closures in the country at 34% of pubs shutting their doors in the last two decades.
Laois ranks sixth at 31%, and Westmeath in eighth at 30%.
The Drinks Industry Group of Ireland, which commissioned the research, is calling for a 10% cut in excise duty in the upcoming Budget to protect the industry.
The group's Donall O’Keeffe says an average of 110 pubs have stopped trading every year over the last two decades, with rural counties worst affected:
