New research shows patients are spending an average of €756 extra every month.

Cancer patients are spending an average of €756 extra every month due to their diagnosis.

A new report from the Irish Cancer Society finds they're also losing around €18,000 a year in earnings. 

The main costs patients face include medical expenses which can't be claimed back, and transport to clinics for treatment. 

Offaly woman Cathy Lynch had three young children and just set up a family business when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005.
