The scheme encourages children to join their local library and pick up a free book bag.
Over 2,400 young children in the Midlands have benefited from the Little Library initiative this year.
Each year, every child leaving pre-school and starting primary school is invited to join their local library and pick up a free book bag.
This year just over a thousand children in Westmeath, 858 in Laois, and 475 in Offaly have collected their bag and taken the opportunity to join the library if they weren’t already a member.
Nationally, nearly 20,000 children across Ireland will join the library because of the initiative.
