Drivers across the region with over three or more penalty points could face additional costs.
Over 27,500 midlands motorists are facing higher motor insurance costs after clocking up penalty points.
That's according to car insurance provider OUTsurance's report, as people across the region with three or more penalty points could be facing additional costs of hundreds of euro through higher motor insurance premiums.
9,544 of the penalised motorists are in Westmeath, 9,329 in Laois and 8,784 are in Offaly.
OUTsurance says its analysis for the first half of this year found over 387,000 drivers in Ireland had exactly three penalty points, accounting for the vast majority of penalised drivers.
