The figures have been released udner the freedom of information act.

More than 1,100 children with hearing problems have been waiting for over a year to see a specialist.

According to freedom of information figures, the highest number of children waiting are 344 in Longford-Westmeath and 255 are in Wexford.

Dr Laura Durcan is the vice-president of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association.

She says the Covid-19 pandemic is worsening the situation - although the HSE's statistics pre-date the crisis:
