Westmeath received the most with over 10,000 alone.
Over 30,000 penalty points were issued in the midlands in 2021.
Figures from the CSO show Westmeath motorists accrued the most points in the region, at over 10,600.
That's followed by a figure of nearly 10,200 in Offaly, and more than 10 thousand in Laois.
The overall number in the region fell substantially from 2020, seeing a reduction of over three thousand.
Nationally, over half a million penalty points were issued in 2021, and men were responsible for almost twice the number as women.
