Over 50 Former Nursing Homes Apply To House Refugees

12 of those are currently in use to accommodate those fleeing the war in Ukraine.

54 nursing homes have applied to repurpose their buildings into Refugee Accommodation. 

Two of those are currently being used for International Protection Applicants, and negotiations are underway for another.

12 former nursing homes are contracted to the Department of Integration for the accommodation of those fleeing the war in Ukraine.

A nursing home must be off HIQA's register for a minimum of a year and a half before it can be considered for use.

But, Laois Offaly Independent TD Carol Nolan doesn't beleive this is a reliable option:
