There are up to 2,000 applicants on the housing waiting list in Laois.
54 new modular homes in Laois will be distributed to families on the social housing list.
Housing charity Clúid will be developing the properties in Hepburn Court, Portarlington, with Laois County Council nominating families from the waiting list to fill the vacancies.
The estate will consist of a mix of two- and three-bed homes, with bungalows allocated for those with disabilities.
