Over 700 Births and 500 Deaths In The Midlands

Those are the figures for the period between January and March this year.

The midlands saw 735 births and 563 deaths in the first quarter of 2023.

The highest rate of births in the region was in Westmeath, at 12.5%, followed by Laois at 10.4% and Offaly was at 9.9%.

Offaly saw the highest number of deaths between January and March this year, with 206, Westmeath had 196 and 161 in Laois.

Compared to the same period last year, birth rates nationally saw a decrease of 13.4%, while there were 670 more deaths across the country.
