That will be spread across 47 initiatives.
€1.3m in funding has been granted to midlands energy related projects.
The Climate Action Fund has allocated €478,000 to 12 projects in Westmeath the highest amount in the region.
€465,000 has been granted to Laois for 16 projects and €444,000 across 19 initiatives in Offaly.
Some schemes included in the funding are Laois Federation of Tidy Towns, Clara Heritage Society and The Downs GAA Club.
Minister in the Department of Agriculture and Green Party rep Pippa Hackett says " I hope that the communities not successful under this round of the scheme will reapply next year and also look at other possibilities for funding projects. Climate action is not a quick fix and we need to be planning this year for next and so on."
