Owner Of Westmeath Pub That Caught Fire "Overwhelmed" By Local Support

He says the Athlone IT students and other local publicans have been a huge help.

The owner of a Westmeath pub that caught fire last weekend says he's overwhelmed by the level of support from the community.

Charlie's Bar and Bar One Racing on the Dublin Road in Athlone went up in flames at about 5.30 on Sunday morning, just six days after reopening after the pandemic.

Garda investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.

Owner Stephen Fitzpatrick says they've been bowled over by the support from the neighbouring Athlone IT students in particular:
