People On Social Welfare Can Have Rent "Disregarded" From Means Test

The Rent A Room Relief scheme has been extended to include them.

Rent a room relief has been extended to people on social welfare.

People can now rent rooms in their homes without it affecting their claims to social welfare.

Provided the rented is not an immediate family member or employee, a person can receive up to €14,000 per annum in rental payments, that will not count towards their mean assessment.

Roscommon Galway TD, Denis Naughton, says it will "provide much needed additional income to families trying to cope with the increase in the cost of living".
