The 'Keep Mullingar Open' petition has a target of 2,500 signatures.
An online petition aimed at keeping Paediatric Diabetes Services open in Regional Hospital Mullingar has surpassed 1,600 signatures.
There's been uncertainty about the future of the clinic after parents received a letter detailing the pressures facing it earlier this month.
However, hospital management announced last week an experienced Paediatric Diabetes Nurse will be released to provide short-term support to the service, until a new appointee is officially transferred to the unit.
The 'Keep Mullingar Open' petition has a target of 2,500 signatures, and says it wants to keep pressure on the HSE to rectify the 'horrific' situation parents and children are in.
