Pharmacists are encouraging people in the midlands to give up the cigarettes, on National No Smoking Day.
It coincides with Ash Wednesday, and the first day of lent.
The HSE is offering free Nicotine-Replacement-Therapies today, and says tobacco usage is the leading cause of preventable death with almost 6,000 smokers dying each year from tobacco-related diseases.
Previously they were only free to those on medical cards at pharmacies.
