The new school will be located in Tullamore.
Plans have been approved for a new two-storey school building in an Offaly town.
The Offaly Special School of Education, in Norbury Woods Avenue Tullamore, will comprise of 12 new classrooms for pupils with special education needs, on a 2.3 acre greenfield site.
The plans include a general purpose hall, music room, home economics room, multi-sensory rooms, sanitary facilities and associated ancillary accommodation.
The development will also bring a new covered walkway between the school and the bus set down.
Offaly County Council is granting planning permission subject to 11 conditions.
