A new six bed acute assessment unit is part of a new development in the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore.
The HSE is being granted planning permission for two extensions to the existing facility by Offaly County Council.
The single story extensions will be built in the Histology department and to the blood transfusion laboratory.
An application for the refurbishment was made in December and the health executive have today been given conditional permission to carry out the works.
