Lidl Ireland were hoping to build a new store in Monksland, Athlone.
Planning permission for a proposed Lidl supermarket in the Midlands has been refused.
The decision was made by Roscommon County Council.
Lidl Ireland applied in May to build a single-storey supermarket, off-licence, café/restaurant, retail unit and public plaza in Monksland, Athlone.
The proposed development was planned for a site near the Joe Duffy showroom and opposite the Athlone Springs Hotel.
