Planning Refused For Proposed Pizza Takeaway In Midlands Town

Applicant Muhammad Riaz was looking for the proposed change.

Planning permission is being refused for a new takeaway to be opened in a Westmeath town.

The planning application submitted by Muhammad Riaz proposed a change of use at ground-floor level at 23 Mardyke Street, in Athlone from a licensed bar to a restaurant/takeaway.

Signage proposals included in the planning application suggest that the premises was intended to operate as a Pizza Max fast-food outlet.

Westmeath County Council pointed to the location within the primary retail core of Athlone Town Centre and feels it "would contribute to an excessive concentration of takeaway and fast-food premises in the area".
