The post office is located on Main Street in Portarlington.
Plans are being lodged to convert a former post office in a Laois town into residential accommodation.
BASS Property Partnership, is seeking permission for the development of nine age-friendly homes added to the walled rear garden, made up of five one-bedroom and four two-bedroom properties.
Plans also include the refurbishment of a single-storey outbuilding for use as a communal space and storage facility for residents, with works including a new roof, replacement windows and doors, and repairs to the existing walls.
They had already secured planning approval earlier this year for the conversion of the former post office building on Main Street in Portarlington, along with the adjoining house, into a restaurant and café.
The application was deemed invalid due to an incorrect date on the site notice and must be resubmitted.
