An Independent councillor says the pride of parents can often mask the true extent of the issue.
Much like a puppy is not for just for Christmas - neither is poverty.
That's the message of Offaly councillor Ken Smollen, who says he has over 700 families who are struggling to put food on the table this Christmas.
It comes after a food donation box outside the Tullamore Library was removed, following an anonymous complaint.
