Primary School Counselling Pilot Delivers Significant Benefits

A pilot scheme on a counselling service in Primary schools found significant benefits for children, families and school communities.

An evaluation has been published by the Department of Education.

The scheme involved one-to-one counselling for children with mild to moderate mental health needs in seven counties.

They were Cavan, Laois, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Monaghan and Tipperary.

A new school based support service was also introduced in 77 schools.
