Almost two kilometres of old, problematic water mains will be replaced.
A new programme of improvement works announced for the village of Emo near Portlaoise.
Almost two kilometres of old, problematic water mains will be replaced with modern pipes to provide a more reliable water supply, improve water quality in the area and reduce the high level of leakage and bursts impacting homes and businesses.
The work, being carried out by Irish Water in conjunction with Laois County Council, will be limited to short sections to minimise the impact on customers.
Traffic management will also be in place and the works are expected to be completed by the end of August.
Joe Carroll, Regional Delivery Lead at Irish Water, said, ““These ongoing projects are part of a significant investment by Irish Water to upgrade the water network across Laois and we would like to thank customers for their continued cooperation and patience while we continue to upgrade and improve the water supply for local communities in the county.”
