Over the last two years there has been a 5 percent increase each year - the payment due for a house in the county which is valued below 100,000 euro will be 99 euro in 2020.
At a special meeting of Laois County Council there were concerns raised that just under 85 percent of homes are being self-evaluated as worth less than 150,000 euro.
The tax brings in just under 5 million to the local authority.
