They say over 400 patients currently have to go elsewhere for treatment.
Providing insulin services now would save the HSE the cost of treating diabetes complications later.
That's according Laura Cooke of Laois Type 1 Diabetes Group which is protesting at Portlaoise Hospital on Sunday calling for an insulin pump clinic to be provided at the facility.
She says those who don't have access to the service must travel to Dublin for treatment at their own expense, causing significant interruption to the lives.
