The rising cost of living will be the key talking point.
Public sector pay discussions between government and unions will go before the Workplace Relations Commission today.
The exploratory talks will focus on the current pay deal, Building Momentum, which provides for a 1 percent pay increase.
Unions triggered a review in March, due to the rising cost of living.
